another year older...but am i any wiser...

yes.
yes.
and yes.

absolutely.
i have learned so much in the past year about myself, my loves, my life, my friendships...everything.

so far i have liked my 30's.
i have watched my friends get married.
have children.
find their professional paths.
its been great.

i too have embarked on a tremendous journey.
i am learning to live like the ocean.
to move with the moon.
to breathe.
to swell.
to retreat.
to sustain.
to support.
to be.
like the ocean i move with the moon.
what a thrill to be one with the world.

i am happy.
i am really truly happy.
my heart sings with joy.
the music from my soul beckons more light and love.
please fill me.
as the notes flow from my breath,
i feel them take their place among my veins.
i feel them begin their crescendo
i feel them descend into their adagio
life is dolce.

as i start my newest journey around the sun share with me your music.
your light.
your love.
i know not what this trip shall hold.
i am sure that there will be rough patches just as the storms swell above the seas
i am sure that there will be smooth sailing just as the laughter echos from children in summer.
but they will be mine
they will mold and shape me as the wind shapes the coast line
i will awaken at times bruised and battered by the storm
yet my strength will break away the clouds
the sunlight will echo from the chambers of my soul
burst free
release me
inspire me
help me transcend to a new place.

i look toward the sun on this beautiful evening
breathe in its beauty
soak it in through my skin
prepare to take this leap
to journey around the sun yet again.
may this year be filled with blessings for us all.
thank you for sharing this trip around the sun with me.

love looks good on you too...

and i am not talking about simply romantic love.
i am talking about love in general.
to love and to be loved is the greatest human capacity.
with love comes many facets...
forgiveness.
patience.
thoughtfulness.
kindness.
friendship.
they are all facets of love.

as the new year has begun and new adventures have arisen i have found myself growing even more appreciative of the relationships in my life.

each one has gained new meaning.
i feel so blessed by the people who have carved out a place in my soul.
who make me who i am.

i spent an afternoon this weekend.
celebrating the new love of steppy's life...
lil miss aj snuggle.
oh i cannot wait for another heart to love.
especially this one.
but as i sat there in this room...
a room filled with women.
who had nothing but love and well wishes
to share with the mother to be.
she is an amazing woman.
and i am a lucky lucky girl to have had her in my life for so long...
we have been friends since we were kids.
and i am forever grateful for her tremendous capacity to love.

but as i sat there and i watched and soaked up all the love in the room i couldn't help but think to myself.
what lucky folk we are.
to have love that surrounds us.
family.
that label includes my friends
they are my family.
they are the threads of the fabric that blankets my soul and keeps me warm in the darkest coldest hours.

as we go through our journeys in life it is so wonderful to know that there are people that you can always count on.
my wish for this new year is that we invest a little more in each of our loves.
give love.
even on days when love cannot be reciprocated in the moment.
always extend love.
because it will come back to you.

as i go on my journey through life.
i know without a shadow of a doubt that i am loved.
i am love.
i give love.
i get love.
you are love.
you get love.
you give love.

i feel blessed in my life that as far as romantic love goes.
i am in love with my mostly companion.
he is...
well he is my heart.
he knows my heart
he fills my heart.
he guides my heart...
and for those things i will forever be grateful.

other love.
mother love.
oh totter.
i love you.
more than words.

to my mother.
my sisters.
my aunts.
my cousins.
my nieces.
my nephews.
you are all a part of who i am.
i am forever indebted to your strengths
your weaknesses,
your laughter.
your tears
your wisdom
your understanding
your love.

to my women friends.
wow.
your capacity to love amazes me.
your capacity to give amazes me
your hearts are amazing
i cannot ever thank you enough for being who you are.
your motherly love for your children
your romantic love for your significant others
your friendship and support for the women around you.
wow.
we are blessed group of women...and whether we are all connected to one another
or whether we only just know each other.
it is still a special thing and you are all special people.

and to my male friends out there
(ha that sounds so official)
your love for all is probably not as recognized as it should be
but your love for your children
your love for your significant others
your love for your other male friends - your brotherhoods
your love for your mothers
for your fathers
and for the women that you call friends
its all amazing.

so thank you all for being a part of my love.

as we grow older and the lines begin to show upon our faces
think of them as love lines.
they are from the twinkle in your eyes
they are from the smiles on your face
they are from the hugs that you give
they are from the hugs that you receive.
they are love.

love yourself.
love your surroundings
love your life.
love each other.
cause at the end of the day...
that's all we've got.
is love.

so remember when you look in the mirror that love looks good on you.
so give love
receive love
and do so whole heartedly.

happy reading!

seeds of change...

seeds of change.
the words are borrowed.
but the idea is real and true within us all.
we have the power to affect change.
to make a difference.

the question becomes do you?
do we plant the seeds?
do we foster the growth needed to change?
what is it that we are trying to change?

i speak these words in reference to not political change.
not world change.
oh how i wish that i possessed the proper words for that though.
however...
this is not the time.
this is the place.
but not today.

the seeds of change i choose to speak of tonight.
are the seeds in which we plant in one another.
the older that i get i become more aware of the seeds that others plant in me.
ha that made me laugh.
it sounds as if i am harvesting babies or something like that.
but that is not the point.
i am talking about the seeds of growth.
personal growth.
change.
beauty.

i am blessed in my life to be surrounded by a group of beautiful individuals.
they are all so different.
yet all very much the same.
in that they have enviable spirits, lights and energy.
i love you all in different ways.
thank you for fostering change in me.

for those of you who have known me for many years know that for a long time i had hardened edges,
i was not soft.
i am always and have been deeply sensitive.
but you might not have known.
i do not know the days in which the walls went up.
it was sometime after my father passed away.
but it happened.
i built walls.
and you have knocked them down.

i know that some of it has been through meeting my mostly companion.
he fosters gentleness and femininity in my that i forgot i had.
he makes me feel like a girl.
not that my biology hasn't made always feel like a girl.
but like a girly girl i suppose.
soft.
sweet.

my other "soul farmer"
is my lovah.
ha so not a lovah in the traditional sense.
i scoured my brain for the right nickname to protect her identity...
and could think of this name...lovah.
its the name we call each other.
if you know the SNL skit.
its the best.
simply fantastic.
if you don't.
i am saddened for you.
ha just thinking about it makes me laugh.

ok so back to my lovah.
she is the one who's words "seeds of change" i have borrowed.
she is a remarkable woman.
she is my soul sister.
we are kindred souls.
one spirit.
two bodies.
together forever since the moment we met.
she is my hero.
these are things she does not know.
she does not know the extent of her own spirit.
her own influence.
she has talents in so many ways.
a heart of gold.
a heart of sunshine and rainbows.
glitter and unicorns.

lovah is a dancer.
that was how we joined together.
she was the grace.
i was the power.
we were all the things the other was not.
together the perfect pair.
although i no longer dance...
i built pieces on her.
watching her dance sets my soul a flame.

she is special.
she is kind.
she seeks to foster growth in our future.
in children.
she sees their light.
she makes it bright.
she is a healer.
she heals me.

when days are dark.
her voice brings solace to me.
she is far.
too far to touch.
but not to feel.
she makes me a better person.

she has stood by me in my darkest days.
stood there when i was wrong.
waited for me to be right.
said nothing.
but let me learn my lessons on my own.
yet was always there to pick me up and dust me off when i fell down.
i have done this a lot in all the years of our friendship.
and yet she has always been there.
to push me to be better.

now that i am better and i am thriving.
i can say thank you.
i don't know that i ever properly have said it.
friends come and go...
but sisters are forever.
and she is my sister.

without her.
i would be lost.
maybe even forgotten.
not to you.
but to myself.
she always knew how to knock down my walls.
through movement.
when she danced with me.
i was free.
i was safe.

she is like magic to me.
she is like pixie dust.
she sparkles in the sun.
she dances in the rain.

so before i cry.
silly girl tears.
this is for her...

if i was beautiful like you
oh the things i would do
those not so blessed would be crying out murder
i'd just laugh and get away with it too
like you do.

if i was beautiful like you
i would never be at fault
i'd walk in the rain between the raindrops
bringing traffic to a halt.

but that would never be
that would never never be
cause i'm not beautiful like you
i'm beautiful like me
beautiful like me

if i was beautiful like you
i's be quick to assume
they'd do anything to please me why not
i see their reaction when you walk into the room.

but that would never be
that would never never be
cause i'm not beautiful like you.
i'm beautiful like me
beautiful like me
beautiful like me
like me

if i was beautiful like you
i'd have so many friends
all fighting for my time to be next in line
so if i hurt one i wouldn't have to make amends.

but that would never be
that would never never be
cause i'm not beautiful like you
i'm not beautiful like you
i'm not beautiful like you
i'm beautiful like me
beautiful like me
i'm beautiful like me
i'm beautiful like me.

thank you for always making me see the beauty in myself.

this could get ugly...

ok well maybe not ugly.

but I believe that I might be enjoying this blogging business a little too much.  it is however only the first day and i guess contrary to popular belief (or my belief I actually have stuff to say not that it is really of any importance cause its not...I just wanna share.)

So yesterday as my fellow Portlandites (I like it better than Portlanders) know it was a beautiful day!!  I spent my day having a picnic in the park with the man I like to call my mostly companion (for those of you who have read Eloise - it makes sense.)  We had a lovely time at Col. Summers Park...as I write this I almost called this KFC park as I totally thought it was Col. Sanders park.  Hahaha  I really enjoy that KFC park.   Well anyways back to the point.  So we were sitting in the park watching the people around us.  And I couldn't help but observe how much I love to people watch...especially on sunny days in Portland.  Portland has LOTS of characters, and being as it is a rather small town the chances of you seeing them again in a different situation are very good.   But I was amazed by all the different people that the sun brings out, as though the city is really a city of hermits unless there is sun which I am still convinced that in Oregon is a government contrived invention that they pull out just to make sure that we are all still living.  Like some sort of Truman Show.  Call me crazy, okay, but seriously the lack of sun is something to be concerned about and why I still live here is BEYOND me.

As our day progressed, we made our way to Swirl on Hawthorne and if you have not tried it yet you should.  Its GREAT!  They have wonderful yogurt, and you get to pick your kind or kinds...and they you yes you get to add your own toppings, and there is everything from cereal, candy, fresh fruit, toppings of the liquid kind.  Well needless to say its all very delicious and I suggest that you try it, and you create your masterpiece and then you pay by the weight.  After creating our tasty treats my mostly compainion and I took our usual spots by the window facing hawthorne.  And what a treat for the mouth and the eyes.  As we were sitting there we there we watched the city stroll on by.  What a feast for the eyes - so many different flavors of individuals.  As I sat and watched the people walk on by, I love to imagine what their stories might by, what movie characters or book characters or anything that they remind me of.  And please as you read this do not take this wrong way, as I am not a mean person, and I do not look at people with a mean eye - I certainly hope that people look at me with a creative eye.  I find people interesting I guess is what I am trying to say and I love to watch them.  Not in a stalkerish sort of way, but just a curious way.  I love to see all the different ways that people dress, their hair.  The way they hold themselves or eachother, their body language, everything about them.

As the day progessed and we went about the day I was noticing how when the sun comes out you truly see how pedestrian friendly and accessable our city really is.  People were walking or riding their bicycles EVERYWHERE!  Its really great.   We are very lucky.

Ok well thats enough rambling...
Portland is truly a special place when the sun comes out.
